Canada has no shortage on beautiful national and provincial parks and each one of them makes for some great camping. Some are on a tier above their fellows, however, and definitely warrant a visit in your RV on your next road trip. Regardless of where you live in Canada (or, if you’re in an RV right now, where you’re currently at) there’s a splendid campground near you.
Pacific Rim National Park, British Columbia
For those who love the rocky west coast, Pacific Rim National Park is perfect for you. This is a park for beach lovers: in the summer it makes for great swimming and surfing and in the colder months the beaches are lovely for sight-seeing, beach-combing, and exploration. Regardless, the beaches here are extensive, with 22 kilometres of sand to walk. Some camp sites are so close to the ocean that you can let the waves lull you to sleep at night.
Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park, Alberta
This park features numerous campgrounds to park your RV while you hike out to explore the rock formations. These rock formations give the park its name, as they feature ancient rock drawings that originate from the Blackfoot people’s ancestors.
Visitors will be able to hike through the desert landscape, which has a diversity of features, including sandstone cliffs, badlands, and hoodoos. Be sure to get a guided Rock Art Tour from a Blackfoot interpreter. This tour takes you to some of the areas that are restricted without a guide and shows off some of the best petroglyphs and pictographs.
Bon Echo Provincial Park, Ontario
Colloquially called the “Gibraltar of Ontario,” Bon Echo Provincial Park’s Mazinaw Rock is the centrepiece of the park. It’s 100-metres tall and overlooks the deep waters of Mazinaw Lake. The rock is 1.5 kilometres long and features nearly 300 pictographs form ancient natives. From swimming the lake to hiking the backcountry of the park, there’s always something to do and see here. Some of the best campgrounds adjoin Mazinaw Rock, so maybe you’ll have a great view if you’re lucky to snag one.
