Making Candy Apples

Posted by | RV Cooking

Fall and winter have certain flavors associated with them, and one of those flavors is apple. Apple cider, apple pie, and, of course, candy apples. Want to learn how to make your own candy apples while you’re out exploring in your RV? This recipe is sure to please and it’s very easy to make it in your RV’s galley.

How to Make Candy Apples

Making candy apples is a quick and easy process that’s fun for the entire family. This recipe takes just 10 minutes to prep and 30 minutes to cook, so you can enjoy these tasty treats in less than 1 hour.

What you’ll need:

  • 15 fresh, local apples
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 8 drops red food coloring
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 15 craft sticks

Cooking instructions:

  1. Lightly grease one or two cookie sheets.
  2. Insert craft sticks into the 15 whole, stemmed apples.
  3. Heat the water, corn syrup and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  4. Heat the water and sugar combination to 300 to 310 degrees Fahrenheit (149 to 154 degrees Celsius). Having a candy thermometer on hand will help greatly with this step.
  5. Make sure a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms brittle but hard threads. Do not stir the mixture after it has begun boiling.
  6. Hold an apply by the stick and dip it into the syrup.
  7. Remove the apple, then turn it numerous times to coat it evenly.
  8. Place the apple on a prepared cookie sheet to harden.
  9. Repeat the same process with all 15 apples, and enjoy.
